How to Paint Rain Drops

My gift to you this Holiday Season is a video demo on how to paint rain drops (or Hawaiian snow) on a red hibiscus using watercolors.

This technique can be used on just about any flower. First, finish painting the flower including any shading and highlights. Second, make sure it is dry. Next, start the rain drop technique I demonstrate in the video to create lovely, three dimensional rain drops.

Kauai's Orchid and Art Festival 2010

This past weekend I was honored to be teaching "Painting Kauai's Exotic Orchids" at the Hanapepe Orchid and Art Festival. This is a photo from Friday's class that took place at Amy Lauren's Gallery.

This artist said that she normally does oil painting and that this is her FIRST watercolor. I think she did a beautiful job on this one!

Another gorgeous start to a beautiful orchid painting!
A lovely orchid painted by a young lady who just turned 13 years old! Happy Birthday!
Now this was the most unique and imaginative painting! This eight year old student painted the top painting, and then she decided she wanted to put her orchid in a pot. So she drew out and did the bottom painting to connect the two all from her own imagination!

Here's where the class was held.

After the class I took a walk around to see the "Orchid Show".

Then I took a stroll around Hanapepe Town to visit the art galleries there.

They even had a classic car show.

Here's the painting I worked on during my second class on Saturday.

Another beautiful piece by one of my students.

Here's a glimpse of Hanapepe and the famous Banana Patch Studio.

I hope you've enjoyed this pictorial about our little orchid festival!

Aloha and Happy Creating,

Painting Kauai's Exotic Orchids in Watercolor

Mahalo to everyone who participated in or helped organize my workshop at Kauai's Orchid and Art Festival in Hanapepe on Saturday! I was so amazed by the talent and style of these art students that I wanted to share their creations in progress:

Several of these budding artists said they have never tried or had much luck at watercolor before! Every single student painted a winner!
A Big Mahalo to Schar and Crystal for helping me during the workshop! We had so much fun listening to the live music of Cindy Combs and Makana. What a blast! Great orchids, art, music, people, food, and the list goes on. If you are on Kauai next year at the end of March, don't miss this event!

A Sneak Peak Into my Watercolor Class!

Yesterday I had such a wonderful group of ladies for my Friday watercolor class, that I wanted to share with you their creations in progress. I went around the room and captured these images as they were about half way done with their paintings. Many of them were absolute beginners!

Thank you ladies for letting me share your beautiful creations!
I teach watercolors every Wednesday from 9am-12pm and
Fridays from 11am-2pm.
You don't need to know how to draw and beginners are welcome!
Aloha,
Marionette
